I don't advise you to enter this school unless you're going to be very self disciplined and have patience. Not gonna lie it was frustrating to navigate my way through a lot of work, but I took apart my work piece by piece and got it done. But, to cut the story short, ask any of the administrators or other higher ups for help or take the time to try to teach yourself.
Please don't give up, because if you do, you're going to drown in a lot of late work quick. If anything to going on tell your teachers more specifically call them if you can, so you can either get extra time on work or get excused, other than that, good luck. This is not an online charter school in the sense of what you think. If you sign your kids up for this - you are not simply an "Aide" to the learning process - you ARE the teacher.
The live lessons do not deliver course content. All content is electronic with learning coach providing context and assistance. And while you might think "sure - I can spend a few hours a day with my kids working on school - I've done that with homework" this is completely different. Every day I regret this decision. Content is not consistent - and assessments can be poorly written. End of content assessment has 4 or 5 questions so miss one or two - goes against grade greatly.
Assignments in the course content - as I've spoken to a couple of teachers - are poorly written so make sure to check the message boards for the correct information. We selected this school to avoid live instruction until Covid is under control - and now I fear that this experience has significantly increased the negative impact of this pandemic.
To be fair a couple of pros: - teachers are very responsive when you do have questions - If you truly want to homeschool - this might be the place for you so you don't have to submit any homeschool paperwork and you know the content is inline with your state's curriculum.
Our parents do have a more hands-on experience than they would in the traditional school setting. By high school, that commitment typically drops to hours a day. I do want to stress that your students have the support of their teachers not only during LiveLessons, but also via phone, webmail and our online classroom every school day.
That support extends to you as their Learning Coach, as well. I encourage you to continue to do so. They will be a great resource for you and your student. My parents and I decided to travel the world this year. Unfortunately, the coronavirus came and pretty much ruined it all. We came back after a few months to California, and grocery stores are empty, people are dying, everything is shutting down for a month. Every school is closing because they don't want the virus to spread. All my friends in school are getting breaks with not much homework while I'm doing homework seven days a week doing 2 to 4 courses a day trying to catch up on the 20 overdue lessons from up to 3 weeks ago.
My mom contacted the school about getting a break because of the coronavirus so I can catch up. They replied, saying they won't, and they are even enrolling new students who want to join the school. It is so hard for me to even focus on the work. I have a short attention span and seemed to be doing much better when in public school. I also have a lot of jetlag like my parents and have been waking up at noon and going to bed at 3 to 6 am. The work is also outdated and so dull.
If you get one question wrong, your grade can drop down so much. The only positive for me is that your grade doesn't go down even when you turn things in late. Sometimes it will for a while if you don't turn anything in, but once you do, you get full credit. Because of that, my grades are still high.
I've seen reviews where it says the teachers yell at students for having overdue lessons, but for me, they haven't said a thing. This school is horrible in every way. Not only Is the staff no help, but they'll also take forever to get back to you If you have any questions. This school will trap you with assignments and give you an overwhelming amount of work. The staff is rude and passive aggressive. Don't go here If you want to succeed. Hey Meh. I'm sorry to hear you're having a bad experience and I'd like to help.
Please have a parent or caretaker send me an email at community connectionsacademy. It's been a site for homeschooling for how long? It's even more stressful than public school for me, and i have major anxiety so that says a lot. Teachers don't help nor teach you anything. They just pile on a crap ton of work every single day like their class is your only class.
Hey Maddie. I'm so sorry to hear you're feeling overloaded. Your teachers can help. Please reach out to them or ask your caretaker to do so. If you'd like us to put someone in touch with you, please have a parent or caretaker contact us at community connectionsacademy.
Hi Massiah. Have a great school year! I've been in this school since the beginning of august and let me tell you this place sucks. The questions specifically try to get you to answer wrong for example on a English assignment when we were learning about the Indian ocean tsunami they gave us four answers that were all in the book.
Another problem I've been having is lazy teachers i submitted a I am so sorry to hear that you are unhappy with our program. I encourage you to reach out to your teacher about these issues so they can help you with live lessons, your grade, and the content in the course. If you would like someone from our school to reach out to you, please have your caretaker contact us by emailing community connectionsacademy. I'm in 9th grade, and I was enrolled in December of last year, I don't understand most of my classes, my parents believe this school has the perfect schedule and I'm constantly told it's my fault.
I don't even know what they are teaching. I've learned more stuff on youtube than connections. Overall a terrible school don't enroll it's extremely stressful and way harder than public. Hi Liam. I am so sorry to hear that you are having a hard time with the courses at our school. It can be challenging to start late in the semester, but our teachers can help you prioritize work. I would encourage you to reach out to your teachers, they can help you to understand the concepts and figure out what work is necessary to complete.
You can contact your teachers through webmail. If you would like me to reach out to your teachers, please have your caretaker or parent send us an email at community connectionsacademy.
When I call there is always a min wait. They have enrollment tasks divided into small portions and the people who answer the phones can't see the documents or answer questions. So, you end up waiting to speak to individual teams. If it weren't for covid, I'd switch to another online provider bc their enrollment system is a complete and utter mess.
I'm very scared that the when we attempt to upload school work, it will be lost and that the education is going to be sub-par, confused, and just as much of a nightmare. I have seen mixed reviews but from our experience it was such a breath of fresh air compared to what her public school was offering. FCA does require you to be hands on, especially at her grade, but her teachers, especially her homeroom, were so helpful and friendly, always available to answer any questions.
I could go more into detail but if you have any questions I wouldn't mind helping. Overall, I am extremely happy with our decision to switch. The curriculum is great and her teachers, especially Mrs. McGuigan, were amazing! McGuigan know you gave her a shout out, Vanessa. I have also shared your onboarding feedback with our Learning Coach team. Have a great summer!
After 1 full month in, I would say the school is failing it students. Issue 1. I would never expect my students to take a test that I had not reviewed or created myself. Each Teacher can have over students each. Though the teachers, so far, are very helpful the content that in presented and the manner in which it is presented is overwhelming in content and lacking in creating an environment where students can succeed.
Issue 2. And available for questions 4 hr per week. It is my fervent belief that unless a child is gifted with photographic memory or a parent can spend 8 hours with your child teaching the lessons the student will not be successful. Hopefully things improve. Hello Leslie. Both of my children started OCA Fall due to the pandemic. I was concerned they would fall behind in their academics due to the pandemic and switched to OCA due to this and safety.
I have been pleasantly surprised at just how much we like OCA! The teachers have been so supportive, lots of additional learning opportunities, clubs kids can be a part of, the classes challenge my children and they have grown so much with their learning this year! There are no breaks with social media nowadays. With virtual schooling, you can provide a respite for your child. Enrolling them in a Connections Academy school can help them focus on learning and you can help them choose extracurricular activities where they feel welcomed and included.
So, what do you think? Are you considering virtual school for your children? What are your thoughts? I honestly love how it can be more hands on! I am all for homeschooling though I have a few years till then since my eldest is tiny. This is not homeschool, it is online school. Theres a difference. Online school has a real live teacher virtually.
I would love virtual school. It seems like this is the perfect combination of set lessons and flexibility to learn in their own way and at their own pace. Virtual school looks like it might be helpful for some kids but just let them remember to get outside too. I love that those who choose to homeschool now have more help available to them.
