Many people have taken to Reddit in order to air their grievances. It happens a lot, but it happens in intervals. During my test I had hours in which I found a lot, but then a pause during which I encountered none.
I reached out to a bunch of other people affected by the hacks to see what exactly went down. It's wrong purely because the game is still being played competitively.
And as long as it is, hacked mons will always be illegal. Another player, shunshine-in-a-bag, says they knew the shiny level Dracovish they got on their second day playing the game was way too good to be true. In general, the reason these Pokemon exist in Surprise Trade in the first place is to advertise the commercial genning sites behind them.
This issue is further exacerbated by the fact people have publicly been arrested for modifying data in Pokemon games. Back in , a Japanese businessman was caught selling modified game data as a side gig and convicted for it. Another case specifically tied to genning shinies happened as recently as this February. With issues like this, any acknowledgement of or participation in the practice only perpetuates it. Unfortunate players who receive the cursed Pokemon experience game crashes and disabled online features.
Pokemon modder "Kurt" dropped a warning on Twitter regarding the hacked Pokemon. Kurt describes the offending Pokemon as "miraculously crafted. What does this all mean in layman's terms? Someone hacked a Pokemon, unleashed it in Surprise Trade a method of obtaining a randomly traded Pokemon in Pokemon Sword and Shield , and now anyone who gets the Pokemon via Surprise Trade risks having their Switch crash and go offline.
It's not exactly a rampant infestation, but until Nintendo or Game Freak announces a patch, it's not a bad idea to avoid Surprise Trades. It'll crash your game when you try to access online features via Y-COM , preventing online interactions until a patch is released. Eurogamer spoke to another Pokemon modder, "architdate," about the how's and why's of this problem. You need to know what you are doing to specifically edit them to cause that behaviour.

Sorry im new people and i saw on many threads that people hate hacked pokemon and i was wondering why people hate them so much? Please post because i would like to know. Star Dust live let live. They destroy peoples games when traded to them, they are usually invincible, they make hard work meaningless, they ruin fun, etc.
They crap up everyone's games and ruin a competitive battler's day.
