We expect hard-drive capacity to grow over time. Even if you can work such storage into your system, it may not be in a single 3TB volume, but in a 2. In that formula, 2 indicates binary, 32 is the number of bits allowed in a legacy disk address, and is the number of bytes in a legacy hard-drive data block.
This situation could have been avoided if the entire computer industry had future-proofed after enduring the GB bit limit problems that cropped up around the turn of the millennium. In truth, most vendors did—with the notable exception of Microsoft.
The company chose not to implement support for anything larger than 2. Microsoft even omitted support from bit XP. I can't believe that all my partitions and files are still there.
The best partition manager software I have ever used. Click to tweet. But you have to delete all partitions on the 3TB hard drive first. Now the 3TB hard drive becomes all unallocated. To make use of all the disk space, you can continue creating a primary partition on the 3TB hard drive. I believe most people are more familiar with using Windows Disk Management. With concise interface, this utility is also easy to handle.
However, I have to remind you that this way also leads to data loss unless a backup is made in advance. Step 1. Right-click the volume on the 3TB hard drive and choose Delete Volume. You will see a prompt saying that deleting this volume will erase all data on it.
If you have made a backup, you can click Yes to go on. I tried everything I could think of but it doesn't work either. Please help. When you check the disk capacity in Disk Management, you might see the 3TB hard drive only showing as a 2TB partition. The remaining space is displayed as an unallocated space, but you cannot use it to expand or create new partitions. So, why 3TB hard drive only uses 2TB, and why you cannot create a new partition with the unallocated space on the 3TB disk?
It is most likely because of MBR disk' limitation. The first method is the best choice as there is no need to delete a partition or data at first. The second and third ways require partition deletion before the conversion.
Step 2. Step 3. After that, find and click the "Execute 1 Operation" button on the toolbar and choose "Apply" to start the conversion. Windows Disk Management offers the disk conversion feature.

I tried formatting the drive, deleting all partitions and volumes and converting it from MBR to GPT and then reinstalling windows yet it still doesn't work. The windows that I am using is Windows 10 Home. I repeated formatting and removing all volumes and partitions and converting to GPT multiple times yet it still keeps going back to only using 2TB after I am done reinstalling Windows. When i right click on it the only options to appear come up are properties and help, and no other useful options.
I have checked many videos online, most which suggest using intel rapid storage technology yet that hasn't worked either. Any solutions?
Thank you. Jul 30, 0 10, Is the drive actually GPT partitioned? I think you may also need to use UEFI boot and not legacy.
